K–12 Evaluation Process: What to Expect
At Insight IQ, our K–12 testing process is designed to uncover how your child thinks, learns, and performs academically. We use gold-standard tools such as the WISC-V (Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children, Fifth Edition), KABC-3 (Kaufman Assessment Battery for Children, Third Edition), WIAT-4 (Wechsler Individual Achievement Test, Fourth Edition), and KTEA-3 (Kaufman Test of Educational Achievement, Third Edition). For students aged 16 and above, we may use the WAIS-V (Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale, Fifth Edition) for a more age-appropriate cognitive assessment.
What the Testing Process Involves
Your child’s evaluation typically includes:
- Cognitive Testing (e.g., WISC-V, KABC-3, WAIS-V): Measures how your child reasons, solves problems, retains information, processes language, and attends to tasks.
- Academic Achievement Testing (e.g., WIAT-4, KTEA-3): Measures skills in reading, writing, math, and oral language.
- Additional Tools: Checklists, classroom observations, and rating scales may be included to provide insight into attention, behavior, or social-emotional functioning.
Testing is one-on-one and structured to move quickly, using short tasks that maintain the child’s focus and motivation. Most students find the experience surprisingly engaging—many even enjoy it!
What the Results Tell Us
The results give a clear, in-depth look at how your child learns best. They help identify:
- Learning disabilities (e.g., dyslexia, dyscalculia, dysgraphia)
- Attention or memory challenges
- Giftedness
- Academic delays or skill gaps
- Instructional and support needs
This information can be used to guide interventions, educational planning, or determine eligibility for services.
Why Experience Matters
Unlike clinical providers who may not understand educational systems, our evaluators have deep experience with school-based special education processes. We know what schools look for in an evaluation, how to document legally defensible findings, and how to present results that directly support:
- IEP eligibility under IDEA
- Section 504 accommodations
- Private school planning
- Homeschool documentation
We’ve tested students of all ages and learning profiles, and we’re known for quickly building rapport—often being called a child’s “new best friend” just minutes into the session. Your child is in skilled and compassionate hands.
